Real Estate Information in Japan

An Overview of Tokyo Residential Real Estate by an Outsider

Real EstateBelow is a quick overview of Tokyo residential real estate, given by an outsider. Employees from big name companies will tell you the details, but many will make it seem like you are best to go through them. The author has no ties to any real estate agency or firm, so this overview is not biased.

International Families

If you are moving to Japan, or back to Japan, and you have children who do not speak the language, then a home or apartment in Minato-ku, Tokyo might be worth looking at. This area has many different international schools, as well as hospitals with English speaking staff, including doctors and nurses.

Houses

The average price of a home in Tokyo is ¥138,920,000. Most of these are 2 bedrooms, but some are 3. The startling thing is that a two bedroom home in a better neighbourhood is more expensive than a four bedroom home in a les well-to-do area. However, the area should be what you need it to be, and include what you need.

Apartments

The average cost for an apartment to own is ¥212,250,000. This is less than a home, and there are some advantages to living in an apartment over living in a home. In an apartment you will have more secure parking and more security than in a home. However, in a home you will have a lawn rather than a balcony.

Apartments for rent

¥750,000 is the average rent for an apartment in the heart of Tokyo. Considerably less than owning a home or apartment, it might be easier for a lot of people to rent before they have the money to buy.

This is a very short overview of the short stay apartments  in Tokyo market, but it will be helpful to get a grip on how much you may have to pay.
